| Sick of Working from Home? Consider CoWorkativeIndependents can work independently, but not alone!
By: Chrystal Mariyanayagam Reasons for this shift include an effort to avoid the constant interruptions that occur at home, or the distraction from the chores that need to be done around the house. A lack of social interaction, camaraderie, and collaboration are also very powerful reasons for the move away from the solitude of home offices. To address this issue, a number of coworking spaces have been emerging across the US and Canada, including Camaraderie, & The Center for Social Innovation in Toronto, The Creative Space in Barrie, and now, CoWorkative in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Coworking is defined as the social gathering of a group of people who still work independently, but who share values and are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space. The concept of CoWorking is to work for yourself, but not by yourself. The ideal environment is an open concept which encourages interaction between members, and facilitates collaboration. “There are many freelancers, work from home and self-employed individuals, and solo entrepreneurs in this area, and a venue such as this in York Region can help them collaborate on various projects, while giving them a social environment to work in” says Neil Raj of CoWorkative. Those who work in or out of the Newmarket, Aurora, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, and Markham regions are encouraged to support this coworking initiative by attending the Coworkative Grand Opening. This event will take place on October 4th, 2011 at 6:00PM, will feature speakers Mario Keriakedes, providing insight into “The Warmth of Friends” and Ray Pons’s "FUDS Management for Solopreneurs- Please RSVP at http://coworkative.eventbrite.com/ End
