With business growing and an increasing demand for Joomla! website projects, Virya Technologies are providing local young people with an opportunity to learn a vocation while playing a core part in the day to day running of a small business.

Oct. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Expanding by taking on staff is always an exciting yet daunting stage in the development of a small business, yet one which can make a huge difference to the success of the organisation.

Virya Technologies have seen an increase in the number of projects requiring their specialist Joomla! skills, alongside a general surge in interest in Open Source technologies.

Having embraced the opportunity to offer NVQ level qualifications to staff through the national Train to Gain scheme, Virya Technologies' director Ruth Cheesley explains that it was the next logical step to bring an apprentice into the organisation:

"Giving somebody from the local community the opportunity to start their working life with an opportunity to learn 'on the job' while backing this up with a national qualification presents a real opportunity both for our business and our apprentice.  We are able to expand our workforce, taking on people who are enthusiastic, keen to learn, and bring a fresh perspective on the work we do.  Our apprentices get the opportunity to work at the 'front line' of the business, being involved from the initial sales process through the design and after sales support - an experience they may not have had until their early 20's if they had pursued an academic route."

Virya Technologies are also sponsoring their web design apprentice to spend a day each week working with the international team of volunteer developers who contribute towards the Joomla! project - the open source content management system in which the company specialises - which also provides an insight into the world of collaborative working on open source projects.

After interviewing a strong selection of applicants identified by local organisation WS Training, Virya Technologies appointed Ipswich-based Chris Smith to the role of Web Design Apprentice, who will begin working full time for Virya Technologies in October.
