By: Ashleigh Slattery EAU CLAIRE, Wis., September 27, 2011 – Eau Claire Ford and Mega Foods are teaming up for the 2011 Tail-Great competition to benefit six local high school athletic departments. The two-part competition will be held on Saturday, October 1 at Mega Foods West from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. The local high schools competing for the grand prize of $1,000 this year include: Altoona, Regis, McDonnell, Memorial, Chippewa Falls and Pending North. Each team will consist of four parents from each competing high school’s Athletic Booster Parent Group. The second place team will receive $500 and third place team will receive $250. All teams will win a cash reward prize, which will fund local high school athletics. ESPN Tailgate will be present at the competition, along with a mobile tailgate filled with activities and games for the community. “We feel fortunate to be part of an unique and exciting event that will ultimately benefit many local schools and athletes,” said Sherry Mohr of Eau Claire Ford. The first part of the two-part competition will require each team to decorate a Ford F-150 tailgate in a school spirit theme. The F-150 was one of AAA’s top pick for tailgate vehicles and the extended crew cabs make it easy to accommodate everything necessary for a great tailgating experience. The teams will be judged on visual appeal, creativity, time and school spirit. The second part of the competition will include preparing a tailgate dinner. Each team will be provided with a mystery basket full of ingredients and will need to create a dinner within thirty minutes. Each team will receive a $25 Mega Foods gift certificate that will allow them to buy additional ingredients from the “pantry” at Mega Foods. Baskets will include renewable materials that are found in Ford vehicles including: wheat, corn, soy, sweet potato, dandelion, carrot and coconut. The sustainable materials range from soy-based polyurethane foams, which are used for seat cushions, seatbacks, cushions, seatbacks and headliners, wheat straw and other plant fiber-reinforced plastic, used for vehicle storage bins and interior door panel. Engineering wood technology (recycled and renewable) is also currently used for interior trim, while sugars made from corn, beet and cane under consideration for biodegradable plastic parts. The competition is sponsored by Eau Claire Ford Lincoln, Mega Foods and local cable company Charter Media. Coach Anderson, retired UW Eau Claire Football Coach, UW Eau Claire Coach and a local chef will judge the competition.
