WPATH Releases New Standards of Care for Transgender Children

Sept. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) has just released the 7th Edition of its Standards of Care, which are internationally recognized guidelines for physicians and other care providers who work with transgender persons.

Chapter VI (pgs. 10-21) cover the Standards of Care for children and adolescents. This section represents a significant expansion of the guidelines specifically directed at providing competent and supportive care to transgender children and youth.

Note: While TransActive is encouraged by this update from WPATH on providing comprehensive and youth-focused care to trans children and youth, we will be reviewing these recommendations in the coming days and sharing more information about any disagreements or concerns we have with the recommended guidelines.

Additionally, TransActive is in the process of preparing our guidelines for affirming care of transgender and gender non-conforming children and youth. We expect this to be completed and available for distribution in Spring of 2012.
