By: chelsea gregory Communities in Schools of Cleveland County helps students in high school with high probability of dropping out to stay in school and finish their high school education. The event was fashioned after the popular television show Dancing with the Stars and had all the glitz and glamour of the television competition. Each couple was asked to choreograph their own routine to a song of their choice and perform that routine in front of a live audience. A panel of five judges gave feedback on each performance but the winners were decided upon by a popular vote from the audience. Each audience member could purchase tickets to vote for their favorite couple. Money raised went directly to benefit Communities in Schools. A VIP pre-show reception included appetizers and live music. Along with the competitor routines, Tammy Arrowood's Dance Academy performed 3 routines by her dancers. Miss Gregory will be doing more work with Communities in Schools during her reign as Miss South Carolina International and as a national affiliate for CHADD, Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder. She will be speaking to various groups of students about hope and the importance of staying in school and getting a good education. Chelsea especially wants students with learning disabilities to know that they can succeed and achieve their dreams in spite of their challenges.
