Chowderfest Weekend October 1 and 2 provides an end of summer party like no other in Beach Haven, Long Beach Island.

Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- There is something in the October air that brings out a certain hunger; this year’s Chowderfest theme was inspired by the popular Twilight series with Team Red and Team White battling it out for supreme recognition. The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce  proudly presents the 2011 Chowderfest; where voters get to choose their favorites from both teams. Join in the fun at get ready for the Halloween spirit with the restaurant's booths decorated, live music from the incredible Hawkins Road and surprises throughout hte day!

This year's line up includes:  Panzones', Chicken and the Egg, Stefanos Seafood, Greenhouse Café,, Howard's, Country Kettle, Long Shots, 4 C's Sons, Phillips and TGIF for white chowder competitors. The Red includes Stefano's, Bistro 14,  California Grill, Beachside Shore Cafe, Black Whale,Sea Oaks, Gournet Deli and Southern Smoke.
Joining the crowd once again this year is Ed Hitzel, Restaurant Critic, publisher and broadcaster and his crew of professional judges. Ed who will once again award the coveted Critic's Choice Award to one red and white contestant brings in some top culinary talent with this nomination. This year's judges include:Ed Hitzel, publisher, broadcaster, overeater. Neil Elsohn, renowned chef, Michael Buchanan, general manager, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Richard Dobbins, Ed Hitzel's Magazine writer, Michael Huber, freelance writer/chef/culinary educator, Geoff Johnson, owner, Copper Fish, Cape May Ed Blake, hospitality employment, Richard Dobbins, writer, philosopher, Jeff Reich, executive chef, Rib and Chop House, Showboat, Camille DeCaro, chef / author, Demetra Nakos, communications major, foodie, & daughter of chef, Phyllis Oppenheimer from the NJ Dept. of Travel and Tourism , Matthew Brunozzi, executive chef, Annata Wine Bar , Scott Macom, attorney, food writer , Amanda Nahas, writer, chef, and Carl Redding,  chef, owner Reddings in Atlantic City.  

Every vote counts, sample the best of the shore and enjoy this one of a kind event. Adult tickets are $20/Children 12 and under $10/and VIP Tickets including Taster T Shirt and 10am entry for early sampling $50. Chowder Cook Off Classic tickets are available online at .chowderfest.com/ or at the Chamber Office 265 West Ninth Street Ship Bottom, 609 494 7211.  Don’t forget Merchant Mart on Saturday October 1 from 10am to 4pm where local vendors have best prices of the year, plenty of children’s entertainment, live music and a special visit from South Side Johnny as he promotes his October 1 Concert at the Surflight Theater.
