July 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Paul Raymond of UFO joins the Vintage® 'Lemon Drop' fan club

Paul Raymond, keyboardist and guitarist with legendary British hard rockers UFO, is the latest star name to fall for the Black Magic of the Vintage Icon V100MRPGM Lemon Drop guitar.

Paul joins the likes of ex-Bad Company guitarist Dave 'Bucket' Colwell, Geoff Whitehorn of Procol Harum, John Parr, Paul Guerin of the Quireboys and Haydn Conway of Oliver/Dawson Saxon in admiring the Lemon Drop's beautiful distressed looks and authentic rocking tones, which come courtesy of its reverse fitted neck humbucker and out-of-phase centre position wiring.

He said: “I took the Lemon Drop with me on tour as my main guitar and it certainly made an impact! In fact, I would go so far as to say it has attracted more compliments and positive attention than any guitar I’ve ever had! Everyone thought it was a really cool looking, and I found it to be a really comfortable guitar to have on stage for two hours. The tone was great and the bridge pickup has plenty of oomph. I even found a use for the out-of-phase pickup!”

Paul began his musical career as a keyboardist/vocalist for Plastic Penny in 1967. He went on to replace Christine Perfect (later to become Christine McVie) in British blues outfit Chicken Shack when she left to join Fleetwood Mac. He then found his way into Savoy Brown as keyboardist/guitarist, and subsequently recorded with ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan.

Paul was later recruited by UFO in 1976. He later joined ex-UFO bandmate Michael Schenker's group, MSG, in 1981 as well as UFO bassist Pete Way's own band, Waysted, in 1983. Paul has been working on and off with original UFO members Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Way along with Schenker in UFO from 1976 to the present day.

A left-hander, Paul's guitar technique is somewhat unorthodox: he plays a left-handed Lemon Drop, but with the strings inverted – just like influential lefties Albert King, Dick Dale and Otis Rush.

After giving the Lemon Drop an outing in front of 80,000 fans at the Hellfest festival in Nantes, France, Paul is delighted with how the guitar is handling. He said: “The Lemon Drop is definitely going to be touring with me for the foreseeable future! I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone – it provides fantastic value for money.”
