Only lawyers who may be hired by the public are eligible for nomination. No one may purchase his or her way onto the listing. The lengthy selection process begins with peer nominations and includes independent third-party research. Each potential candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of achievement, with final selections made on a state level.
