sight slower than expected economic growth warrants keeping rates low. There is still no clear read as to how long. Two maybe three more meetings.

Comments:

With lack luster economic data of late, that is at best, "not as bad as expected," it's no wonder the FOMC elected to leave rates as is. The rhetoric does not give traders any certainty. The Fed sights slower than expected economic growth and downgrades the GDP. They did not lend themselves directly to QE3. Although, Bernanke did touch on the idea that further purchases of assets may become necessary during the Q&A session of the press release. What was surprising to me was that there was no commentary regarding the debt ceiling.

During the Q&A session they did touch on Japan, China, Greece, and the impact of weather conditions, as well as other issues we've discussed in previous releases of
Quant Trade's News You Can Use.

If I were to have the chance I would have presented the issue of the ECB buying up debt in Greece, and what impact that could have if that paper is used to collateralise further purchases of U.S. debt. There still is the perception that Greece could default, although I think that's unlikely. The credit bureaus may think differently. Next week the Grecian Parliament will work out the exact measures to be taken in an attempt to cover the trillions they face. Protests continue in the streets stemming from expectations of those measures.

Commodities get hit hard when the IEA announces tapping into the SPR for 60 Million barrels of crude to replenish the product that was shut down in Libya. The U.S. is to release 30 Million barrels. One thought is that the drop in energy prices could stimulate this sluggish economy. I'm not sure how that helps the employment situation which is, in my opinion, the major issue.

Yearly Russell re-balancing and the end of the quarter is likely to create some influx in
volume as portfolio managers shift their holdings.

The sell off Thursday was, as usual, over done. Late short covering brings things back to a level of normalization but is still jittery going into the weekend. Remain cautious as news comes out Tuesday and Thursday of the Greek austerity plan.
