Claude Mattox Tells Tea Party There is No Time for "On the Job Training"

May 20, 2011 - PRLog -- During the May 17, 2011 candidate forum hosted by The Ahwatukee Tea Party (TATP), mayoral candidate and Phoenix City Councilman Claude Mattox urged voters to reject candidates without city government experience as viable options for the office of Mayor of Phoenix.  

“Phoenix residents can’t afford for someone to enter the Mayor’s office with no experience or knowledge of how city government functions effectively. There is no time for a lengthy learning curve. The issues that Phoenix currently faces need to be addressed aggressively and immediately,” said Mattox. These comments came in response to many answers from other candidates on the forum who demonstrated little awareness of the issues facing decision by the Phoenix City Council.

Mattox, who has served as City Councilman for District 5 for eleven years, was clearly the most informed candidate in attendance on issues such as public safety, job creation, and upcoming city employee contract negotiations. When asked for further comment, Mattox responded, “I take city government seriously. I don’t view it as a springboard for other opportunities. I have committed to serving my full term as a City Councilman, and I will do the same as Mayor. Focused and direct leadership needs to be demonstrated by the next Mayor of Phoenix immediately.”

Not all candidates were invited to the Tea Party forum. The attending participants were asked questions by a moderator and given ninety seconds to two minutes to respond. Approximately one hundred tea party participants attended.
