Oregon Hotel Adds Green Certification

March 21, 2011 - PRLog -- March 21, 2011 HOUSTON – Ashley Inn and Suites of Lincoln City, OR recognizes the growth in green travel, and has earned not one, but two green certification to support its own eco-friendly reputation.  The hotel first achieved Leadership Level in the City of Lincoln City’s Sea Star self-certifying program for environmentally-friendly properties.  They then added the Green Business Bureau’s nationally-recognized green business certification.

“The GBB offered the best alternative for the three areas we considered when evaluating certifying agencies,” says Ron Wallace, Ashley Inn and Suites’ general manager.

Wallace says the hotel considered customer service, reputation and price when reviewing certification  programs.  GBB came out on top in all three areas.

“The GBB program offered an easy initial set up for compliance and offered great follow-on contact with our establishment, “ says Wallace.

An added benefit of enrolling with the GBB was the organization’s recent addition of an Eco-Industries Program designed specifically for hospitality and lodging facilities.  The GBB’s tailored program is so robust that it has been added to the AAA Eco-Travel Program and Travelocity.com’s Travel for Good Program, both of which require participating hotels to be certified by a “trusted certifying agency” before they can earn eco-friendly designation on these sites.

Wallace says that the hotel already had many of the green practices required by the GBB for certification in place before enrolling with the program.  The fact that GBB offers credit for pre-existing practices was another deciding factor in choosing the program over others.
Moving forward, Wallace says Ashley Inns and Suites is looking forward to gaining the tools and organization necessary to maintain its green status and to effect continuous improvements in conserving natural resources.
