Hourly rates wrong way to choose freelance talent, says report

Hiring freelancers based on their hourly rates is a flawed approach, according to a new report about smart strategies for selecting creative services providers.

Feb. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Plainfield, Indiana - Comparing hourly rates is an inherently flawed way to evaluate creative service providers, concludes veteran copywriter and marketing consultant Scott Flood of Scott Flood Writing in a recently released report.

"Base your decision on hourly rates, and you're probably not going to end up with the best provider for your needs and budget," Flood explains in "The Smarter Strategy for Selecting Suppliers."

"Anytime you hire any kind of professional, expertise, knowledge, and talent are far more important than price," he adds. "In fact, you should be looking beyond price to consider the value the provider will bring to your business. A successful provider with a healthy business is rarely going to be the cheapest choice based solely on hourly rates."

In the report, which is currently available for a no-cost download at http://sfwriting.com/freeguide, Flood explains that low hourly rates provide a form of false economy. "If Provider A charges half as much per hour as Provider B, but it takes A four times as long to handle the work, A is actually twice as costly. Plus, if A lacks the needed experience or talent, the quality and results will suffer."
