Feb. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Preceding Bootsy Collins' forthcoming new album 'Tha Funk Capital of The World,' Funkmaster of The Drums - Stevie Hawkins, will be releasing his new funk and soul music album 'What The Funk?' late February. The 16 tracks CD meld an incredible (authentic) Funk and Soul musical experience that has not been heard in recent years.

‘What The Funk?’ was written and recorded over a two year period in (New York - LA - Atlanta - Nashville), and features Stevie with a fabulous lineup of guest artists and musicians. Those appearing on the album include; Soul Diva Jocelyn Brown, Sista Monica Parker, Tony Lindsay, D'Layna, Funk Dogg, Cooley, Jaroslav Jakubovic, The Blues Brothers Horns, The Memphis Horns, Joe Vitale, Thiago Pinheiro, Butch Taylor, Tyrone Chase, Anthony Vitti, Sal Giorgiani, Jennifer Cosaro, Ralph Rosen, Delicious Allstars, Sanj Sen, Chuck Webb and many more.

Although titled What The Funk?, the album is not entirely comprised of funk tunes. Says Stevie, "The album is a mix of funk, soul, jazz, latin, blues, with rock overtones blended throughout the tracks. Although this is me doin' my thing, me being me, the album pays homage to some of my inspirations and influences as a vocalist and drummer such as Bootsy Collins and P-Funk, Clyde Stubblefield, Tower of Power, Al Green, Bobby Bland, George Clinton, Funkadelic, Sly Stone, James Brown, Thelonious Monk, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix and others. There is a little something here for everyone. You get the funk, and then some!"

With soulful vocals, deep drivin' bass, slick guitars, a big~n~tight in your face horn section, smooth Fender Rhodes, super-funky drums, Hammond B-3 organ and clavinet, the heavy guns on this new album fire with all barrels.

Stevie and his label, Emphasis Records will be promoting the release through various music and social media venues. The CD and DD will initially be available for purchase through Atlanta Music Group, Nimbit, and Stevie's forthcoming steviehawkins.com website.

With Bootsy Collins and Stevie Hawkins releasing new funk albums, and with Prince on tour, 2011 is shaping up to be the comeback year of tha funk!
