BioPoint Announces New Analytical Imaging Group

Sept. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Biopoint, the Cambridge based life sciences company, today announced it had created a new imaging technology group to focus on customers increasing need for advanced advanced imaging applications. The new group will provide applications solutions based in three primary areas.
   Products and Instruments
   Components and Modules
   Services and Support
The products and instruments team will focus on bringing new and novel instruments to market. The component and modules team will offer integrative product information and support on the company's range of CCD cameras, transilluminators and software and the Services and support group will focus on delivering engineered analytical solutions for specific projects for grant funded research.

The company is shortly to announce further agreements with a number of leading life science instrument companies.

BioPoint is a specialist supplier of products and technologies in the biomolecular separations and analysis area. It already represents several world leading companies such as Hoefer, SERVA and BioImage in the UK as well as Consort, Scie-Plas, Heathrow Scientific who design and engineer specialist systems.

In announcing the imaging team, BioPoints' Managing Director, Gerry Skews commented, "Imaging continues to play a critical role in life science analysis and our approach is radically different. Each of our products in the range are designed to interface and interoperate with each other as well as functioning as stand alone products. This means that engineering solutions are much easier and cheaper than was possible before even though it requires more work before we offer products to customers.
A good example of this is the use of the BioStep range of transilluminators which are direct replacement or alternative products for UVP and Vilber Lormat type devices, even though they are significantly less expensive and plug compatible by integrating them into our systems we are able to offer a soup to nuts solution for our customers.

Our latest range of CCD cameras are truly remarkable, at around 10 times less expensive than equivalent specification products of 5 years ago, these cameras provide incredible signal to noise ratios and again, have been fully integrated into our range of products. It's now possible to buy a dual stage cooled CCD system for around £2,000 and have it working on a laptop or desktop computer in around 5 minutes. Having integrated the cameras with the BioImage software the images can go from gel (or plate or microscope) to analysis directly. The BioImage software can automate the data reduction process to further simplify the entire workflow. Modular, scalable and workflow driven technology that is cost effective to deploy and easy to expand."
