The Stocked Pot Caters Dr. Maya Angelou Birthday Celebration

May 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Winston-Salem, NC April 29, 2010:  The Stocked Pot was the exclusive caterer for the recent garden party celebrating Dr. Maya Angelou’s 82nd birthday.  Attended by approximately 100 close friends and family, Dr. Angelou was serenaded by celebrities such as  musicians Martina McBride, Naomi Judd, hip-hop artist and actor Common and culinary legend Chef Ming Tsai.  

Chefs Don and Andrew McMillan created the 5 course menu to honor Dr. Angelou and it consisted of favorites such as Ashford Salad,Peach Sorbet served in Ice Shooters, Oprah’s Smothered Chicken (Boneless Breast),Rice Pilaf, Southern Style Collard Greens, Butter Topped Rolls, Southern Biscuits, Crackling Corn Bread, Banana Pudding and a beautiful show piece birthday cake.

Chef Don McMillan will work with Dr. Angelou later this year on a cook book titled "Great Food All Day Long." The recipes are based on the idea of eating small amounts of food during the day, a way of eating that she said helped her lose 40 pounds over the last two years.  Chef Don McMillan also helped recreate recipes with Maya Angelou for her cookbook "Hallelujah! The Welcome Table: A Lifetime of Memories with Recipes" Chef Don McMillan worked along with Dr. Maya Angelou in her kitchen testing the recipes and getting them ready for the photographs for her cookbook.
