Local Dentists Take a Stand Against Sweets this Halloween

Greensboro, NC – What do ghosts serve for dessert? Ice scream!

For the THIRD year in a row, Civils’ Dentistry is literally putting money where your mouth is. Trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Civils Dentistry in Greensboro and receive $1 per pound up to 5 pounds.  Drs. David and Janna Civils are leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and other treats in exchange for Halloween candy. Children will also have the opportunity to color a picture and send a card to a service member! The candy and artwork will then be shipped to our troops overseas.

Dr. David Civils states: “A little candy is fine in moderation.  However the amount of candy children get for Halloween is often excessive and can remain in the house for weeks or even months.  Having a large amount of candy readily accessible is the perfect opportunity for prolonged sugar exposure, snacking in between meals, and poor dietary habits that cause tooth decay.”

Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever.  Candy can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain as well as damage teeth and orthodontic braces.

Candy will be collected at Civils Dentistry located at 1114 Magnolia Street in Greensboro, November 4-14, 2013.  Operation Gratitude will ship candy and cards to our troops overseas.
