May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- INTUG is pleased to announce the publication of its position paper on Cloud Computing. Written by INTUG Board Member and EVUA General Manager, Jon Neville, the paper talks about IT companies embracing the cloud computing opportunity as a way of providing additional services to their existing and potential customers.

From an enterprise point of view, as with any other innovative ideas to change practices, a business case is essential.  The Position Paper warns that savings in hardware and software costs may not offset increases in management costs.  A recent study of vendors offering Unified Communications from the Cloud, shows that they must provide the fully-loaded UC solution, including network costs, for under $50 per user per month.   The paper says that buyers of Cloud based services should also consider the potential downside of possible compromises in service levels and security.

Jon Neville, INTUG’s Vice President for International Organisations, said today, “Cloud Computing is now on everyone’s agenda. Organisations from small to large enterprises, government, educational establishments, and even the military are investigating whether Cloud Computing can transform their IT infrastructure, not only to reduce cost, but also to ease maintenance, support and upgradeability.

The paper recommends companies avoid the pitfalls associated with adoption of this technology by following a six point action plan checklist to maximise the likelihood of a successful implementation with a sound financial return”.
