IIPM honours leadership of another kind

April 29, 2010 - PRLog -- TO felicitate people from various walks of life who contributed in their own capacity through academic research, socio- political involvements and by selflessly working for the cause of the poorest of the poor, IIPM hosted the inaugural Manavata Vikas Award, national- level award function, at the India International Centre on Thursday.

The chief guest for the occasion was Dr N. R. Chatterjee, former dean, FMS, Delhi, and currently the dean of faculty development programmes at IIPM. Also present on the occasion were Dr M. K. Chaudhuri, founder director, IIPM and chairman, IIPM- Manavata Vikas Award Committee and Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri, honorary dean, IIPM. The awardees included Mahasweta Devi, Medha Patkar, Ashok Sanjay Guha, Sunanda Sanyal, Kaushik Basu, Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya, Pradip Bose, Swaminathan S. Anklesaria Aiyar, Gurcharan Das and a non- profit institution — Belur Sramajibi Swasthya Prakalpa Samity. Each awardee was presented with a gold medal, a citation and a cheque of Rs 5 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion, M. K. Chaudhuri said, “ IIPM has always aimed at developing a three dimensional personality in its students – pursuit of knowledge, commitment to economic, social and cultural upliftment of masses and cultivation of taste for literature, fine arts, and so on. This award is a reflection of this objective of the institute and also a part of the institute’s commitment to promote individuals who share a similar vision for the nation and the youths of tomorrow.”
