High School Seniors Compete for Culinary Scholarship to Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale

Teens Test Culinary Skills During the Best Teen Chef Local Cook-Off Competition at International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale

April 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Fifteen high school seniors from Florida, Kentucky, New Jersey, Washington, Georgia, and the Bahamas with a fascination for food and a desire for a chance to be awarded a culinary scholarship will compete on Saturday, April 24, 2010, 9am-12p, at the Best Teen Chef© local cook-off competition at the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, 1650 SE 17 Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The top three local winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively, as awarded by the judges. The gold medal winner progresses to the final round in Houston, TX, on May 15, where the top prize winner is awarded the title of Best Teen Chef© and  can earn a full-tuition scholarship toward a bachelor’s degree, associate's degree, or diploma program to study culinary arts at one of the more than The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. In addition, the top winner will be an "Intern for a Day" at Food Network Kitchens in New York City, will get a tour of Food Network's studios, dinner for two at a Food Network chef's restaurant, and a library of Food Network Kitchens cookbooks.

“The competitors in the Best Teen Chef© Competition never cease to amaze us,” say Chef Jack Kane, chef director at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. “The passion for culinary arts displayed by these high school seniors is impressive.” The students will be preparing a menu of shrimp cocktail, sautéed breast of chicken, seasonal vegetables, and rice pilaf during timed heats.
