41% of Small Business Owners Wouldn't Do It Again - Survey

While business owners surveyed in the MerchantCircle.com effort reported overwhelmingly that they expect to survive the recession, 41% wouldn't start up again in this environment. Business Author Randy Kirk says that's exactly backward.

Nov. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- "This is the very best time to start a new business or buy and existing one, but those in the middle of this mess don't get it."  This is according to marketing consultant and author of "Running a 21st Century Small Business, Randy Kirk.  "The time to buy is at the bottom, the time to sell is at the top.  This is a fundamental business axiom that the average business owner never fully understands."

Kirk was responding to a survey just release that was conducted by the massively popular local search engine Merchant Circle.  They found that while only 5% of those still in business today, believe they will not make it through the recession, fully 41% would not open the same business in this climate.

"What better time to be in business than when your competition is either discouraged or buying the boards and nails.  My clients are all gaining market share every day while their bigger competitors are hunkered down or changing careers.  If the economy goes down by 10%, but the businesses in your industry close at the rate of 20%, your opportunity to grow is huge.  It's the same principle as buying a house right now with prices depressed 30%.  But folks are scared prices will drop further, so they wait until prices have gone up for a year or two and jump in at the top."

Kirk is part of a company that is utilizing inexpensive internet methods to maximize client exposure for under $1000.  "People ask how our company, Page1Listings.com can possible do what we do for $895.  In fact, sometimes they want to know if that is the monthly charge.  Much of what happens on the web is not that hard to do.  We've come up with simple solutions that don't cost much.  And we entered the internet marketing business in a recession, and we're growing like crazy."
