Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital to Host MPowerYourself Health and Wellness Expo Saturday, October 17

Oct. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- DARBY, PA -- Get ready for one of the biggest health events of the year! NBC10, ESPN, and Power99 joined forces with Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital to present the first annual MPowerYourself Health & Wellness Expo, a completely FREE community health event designed to meet the health and education needs of the communities we serve in a friendly, fun-filled environment for the entire family. The third of the four-part health series will take place at Mercy Eastwick Wellness Center, 2821 Island Avenue, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The MPowerYourself Health & Wellness Expo will feature health screenings, health education, fitness instructions, food, cooking demonstrations and children’s activities in a family-friendly environment. Highlights of the jam-packed activity lineup are as follows:


· Talent appearances by NBC10’s Ted Greenberg and Tim Furlong, ESPN’s Mike Missanelli plus a Power99 LIVE broadcast with Shamara

· An extensive team of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to provide on-site health screenings and assessments and answer health questions. Screenings include blood pressure, cardiac risk assessment, cholesterol, diabetes, prostate, carbon monoxide and body mass index (BMI).

· Products and services from over 30 local health and wellness businesses and non-profit organizations. A variety of local restaurants and fitness and wellness businesses will be exhibiting at the event, including Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, and many more.

· Stage appearances will focus on a variety of health topics such as orthopedics, weight loss surgery, cancer, heart health and H1N1 (Swine Flu).

The MPowerYourself Health & Wellness Expos are being hosted by hospitals within Mercy Health System on the first four Saturdays in October. The event is modeled after NBC10's FitFest, the region's largest health symposium for eight years, which attracted over 60,000 people annually.
