Follow on Google News | Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital Offering Free Cancer Screenings in NovemberMercy Fitzgerald Hospital will be offering free cancer screenings during November. The Mercy Cancer Care program will perform free prostate screenings for men on Tuesday, November 10 and free clinical breast exams on Tuesday, November 17.
By: Bernice Ho The free prostate screenings will take place on November 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Radiation Oncology suite, on the ground floor of the Medical Science Building at MFH, located at 1500 Lansdowne Avenue in Darby. The screenings will include a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) and a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test. Annual prostate screenings are recommended for men with a family history of prostate cancer beginning at age 40 and all men starting at age 45. The free clinical breast exams will take place on November 17 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the offices of Mercy Women First Gynecologic Associates, on the first floor of the Sister Marie Lenahan Wellness Center, located at 1503 Lansdowne Avenue in Darby, across the street from the main hospital building. Appointments are required for both screenings. Please contact MFH Cancer Care Coordinator Joy Hepkins, RN, OCN at (610) 237-2648 to schedule an appointment. MFH offers free screenings for a variety of health issues throughout the year, both separately and as part of large health fairs. By offering these screenings, MFH aims to bring better health to community members who otherwise may not have access to quality health care.
