New Romance Novel Uses Mystical Storyline to Illustrate Universal Truths

Bloomington, IN [January 26, 2009]—  In a story that spans 300 years, a witch’s magic is used to propel two women into life-altering situations that teach them both the magic of love and family. In Laurel Bradley’s new book, A Wish in Time, two women cross incredible paths through the ages.

It’s 1718 in Kirkinwall, Scotland, and Magda McClellan is living the life of her dreams. Happily married to her husband, Davy, and eight months pregnant, she visits Auld Annie, the village witch. The thieves’ hole Annie’s been in has collapsed and she is being held in a cramped storeroom.  While Magda is there offering food, Annie is so touched by the extraordinary aid, she offers to grant Magda a wish. Magda, who believes the witch is more likely to be crazy than a true sorceress, refuses.  It’s a decision that will change her life – and the life of Maggie McClellan.

Maggie and her husband, David, live in 21st-century New York City. Although they are happily married, the couple is desperate to have a child. When they visit a fertility clinic for Maggie to undergo an in-vitro procedure, an older Scottish nurse at the clinic promises to grant them their wish of a child. Puzzled, Maggie goes ahead with the treatment. When she awakes from anesthesia, she’s pregnant and suddenly living in 18th-century Scotland.

Maggie isn’t the only one to be transported into another woman’s life. Magda has been thrown into Maggie’s bustling life in New York and into a body that’s not carrying a child. Maggie’s David believes his wife’s claims of being Magda are a side effect of the anesthesia, while Davy, initially skeptical of Auld Annie’s powers, comes to realize that maybe the impossible has occurred.

When Auld Annie discovers the switch is still in effect, she rushes to correct the situation.  Meanwhile, Magda and Maggie face their own set of decisions and emotions about this baffling occurrence. Bradley has created a moving, original story that connects readers with these two couple’s dilemmas.
