It will be a Happy New Year for the internet radio and TV station for cats as Icarus, Cat Galaxy's Program Director returned from the hospital late Thursday after being hospitalized for a urinary tract blockage which occurred six days ago. According to Dr. Aubrey Pruitt, Icarus's physician, the blockage could've been fatal if it hadn't been discovered early enough. After inserting a catheter, Dr. Pruitt said there was a significant amount of blood in Icarus's urine but he managed to clear the blockage. Icarus however managed to remove it several times and refused to eat making the staff's job a little hard. They had to force feed him and he also didn't use the litterbox which is normal for cats in this situation. After a couple of extra days Icarus's condition started to improve and Dr. Pruitt felt he was well enough to return home but Icarus will continue to receive medication twice a day and that there's a moderate chance of this happening again.

"There's still a little blood in his urine so there's still a chance he could get blocked again. He'll have to be closely watched for several days " said Dr. Pruitt of Four Peaks.

Isis and Jade, Icarus's sisters as well as his human Nohl Rosen are glad to finally have Icarus home and are planning to dish out special treats when he's well enough to have them.

"It's so good to have him because we really missed him. We're so grateful for the excellent care Dr. Pruitt and his staff gave Icarus while he was there and highly recommend Four Peaks. We can't possibly thank them enough for saving him," Rosen said.

Icarus was being treated with antibiotics for a urinary tract infection before the blockage occurred. Signs of a UTI include straining when using the litterbox, yowling or crying when urinating, and urination in places other than the litterbox. If you suspect a UTI then contact your veterinarian as soon as possible so the proper tests can be done. If you suspect a blockage (where no urine is being produced when the cat is using the litterbox) then get them to the vet right away. Waiting any longer could result in death.

Cat Galaxy thanks all of its listeners and viewers for keeping Icarus in their thoughts and prayers and wishing for a safe and speedy recovery. For those wishing to send well wishes they can call the station at 480-980-8541 or send an email to catprotector@catgalaxymedia.com.
