"NYC Watershed Art Project" Landscape Paintings and Maps Upcoming at the Equity Gallery thiBy: Tiber & Hudson Publishers LLC The team consists of artists associated with leading institutions such as the Grand Central Atelier, New York Academy of Art, the Hudson River Fellowship, as well as professional land planners and mapmakers: Diana Buitrago Eric Leichtung John Burkholder Mario Robinson Robin Kappy Patricia Watwood Erik Koeppel Tony Winters Lisa Lebofsky Over the course of 18 months the team of artists took an immersive journey, going on field visits, documenting the process through plein air sketches and paintings. With the help of guides and advisors they explored remote landscapes and their histories. Echoing the practice of the Hudson River School artists, larger studio paintings were produced based on field studies. A series of maps were also produced as part of the project that make the diverse landscapes and their rivers accessible to a general audience. Viewers will be invited to discover the source of their drinking water as it travels from the Catskill Mountains through giant aqueducts that operate by gravity alone as they learn about the history of the watershed. They will see through the eyes of award-winning artists who have explored the rivers just to feel how nature has formed the landscapes and how man has made use of the water to serve a great city. The NYC Watershed Art Project is a collaborative effort between professional artists and land planners aimed at creating a contemporary portrait of the three watersheds supplying NYC's drinking water. The project was organized by artist Tony Winters and sponsored by Hart/Howerton. On Thursday September 4th, 2025 there will be a opening reception for the exhibition, free to the public, hosted by the Equity Gallery. The exhibition has been developed with the help of advisors Jon Bowermaster of Oceans 8 Films, and Dr. Eban Goodstein, Director of Graduate Programs in Sustainability, Bard College. The NYC Watershed Art Project will be on display at the Equity Gallery through September 27, 2025. The Equity Gallery is located at 245 Broome Street, New York. For more information End
