PRLog -- In food industry, the overall migration is measured to ensure food safety, to assess the inertness of the material, and to comply with regulations. For instance, Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 lays down the general principles of safety for all food contact materials (FCMs). Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 specifies methods for measuring overall migration of plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs by contacting test specimens with evaporable food simulants at specified temperatures.
The overall migration of a material or a ready-to-use article made of plastic in contact with foods, is determined by putting test specimens in contact with evaporable food simulants in test conditions chosen on the basis of the worst-case scenario of the use and by weighing the dry residue of the evaporation food simulant.
