| ![]() Children's Book Author Transforms Local Ice Cream Shop into a Classroom for Data LiteracyThe event, part of her ongoing efforts to make data literacy accessible to young learners, encouraged children to think critically about how data influences everyday decisions. Through an interactive book reading, Donelson introduced children to quantitative and qualitative data, using ice cream as an example. She explained how numbers—such as scoop counts and topping choices—represent quantitative data, while flavors and textures illustrate qualitative data. By using ice cream as an example, Donelson demonstrated how data is embedded in simple, real-world choices. As part of her initiative to expand educational opportunities in underserved communities, Donelson donated books from her Inspiration Library to each child in attendance, ensuring they had resources to continue their learning beyond the event.
