Follow on Google News | Palm Beach Memory Care Joins The Wisdom Warrior ChallengePalm Beach County's premier memory care provider will be participating in this year's Wisdom Warrior Challenge for the first time.
A national event originally intended for senior adults aged 50 to 105 years old, the Wisdom Warrior Challenge is a race event ranging from 50-1600 meters and serves as an opportunity for seniors to get physically active, socialize, showcase their vibrancy and dismiss the myth that aging means settling into a sentient lifestyle. "I created WWC in 2019 to dispel myths about aging and the limitations that follow this narrative," said non-profit founder Linda Borgmeyer. "We have much more control over how we age and making better choices for our physical and emotional health enhances the golden years." According to the Alzheimer's Association, approximately one out of nine people aged 65 and older (10.9%) has Alzheimer's and almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women and Palm Beach Memory Care will be participating in this year's Wisdom Warrior Challenge for the first time. A memory care community committed to supporting the needs of seniors with cognitive challenges such as Alzheimer's, dementia and other neurological conditions, Palm Beach Memory Care is a proprietary, person-centered, evidence-based program designed to help people connect with their lives and loved ones at every stage in life's journey. Community Relations Director Cindy Ekonomou says the mission of Wisdom Warrior Challenge echoes dementia research. "Currently there is no medication that can curb the risk of dementia by an overwhelming amount, but walking daily just may. Research is starting to show that people who walk just 3,800 steps per day are about 25% less likely to develop dementia," said Cindy. "We love this initiative! The more steps you take, the better it is for your brain and heart!" The Wisdom Warrior Challenge began with humble roots in 2019 - a group of 19 seniors training together for a local 5k race - and five years later, the initiative has over 1000 participants across the country and is supported by major sponsors such as AARP, marketing solutions provider PYRA Promotions and Fox Rehabilitation, a clinician-operated, professional private practice of full-time physical, occupational, and speech therapists committed to providing house calls to seniors. Inclusivity is foundational to the Challenge and seniors of all capabilities are encouraged to participate with divisions for those using canes, walkers and wheelchairs for mobility and the qualification requires nothing more than being 50 or older and being able to repeat the statement, "Age is just a number, and I am so much more than a number!"
