Festive distractions have caused the number of new travel job vacancies to fall to its lowest level for 22 months, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment. While traditionally the quietest month of the year for travel recruitment, December 2022's total still dropped by 39 per cent from December 2021 to hit the lowest figure since February 2021. The number was also down by 58 per cent from the pre-pandemic month of December 2019. Candidates and job placements also fall in December Despite also falling to its lowest level this year, it was a somewhat more impressive month in terms of new candidates, which posted the highest December total since 2018. December 2022's figure was up by six per cent from the same month in 2021, up by seven per cent from 2019 and down by just two per cent from December 2018. Similarly, the number of candidates being placed in new travel jobs also fell to an annual low in December, with volumes falling by 40 per cent from November, but was still up from December 2021 by a considerable 95 per cent. Compared to previous Decembers, 2022's figure was down by 10 per cent from 2019 and down by 30 per cent from December 2018.
