Follow on Google News | "'QAID-NO WAYYY OUT' is a rare story," says Sonia W Kohli, an aspiring filmmaker based in LondonSonia comments that QAID is a rare story in Indian cinema and is inspired by true events. It's based on an issue our LGBTQ friends and family members face in silence, though viewers of all gender identities will surely connect with it. Without revealing much, the founder of 'The Kunishka Production Ltd' says that the story is based on a subject which has not been talked about much till now. Talking about challenges from development to production, Sonia explains that she would write at nights after putting her kids to sleep and sometimes even found herself writing till 2 in the morning. One of the biggest challenges she faced was finding the cast. She had to find actors who lived in London, could speak good Hindi, and could play a gay man. The actors would decline the role as soon as they heard it was an LGBT film. She mentions that she was open to hiring LGBTQ actors as well but no one applied. On crew assembly, she states that she started assembling a team much earlier than the planned shoot period which was February 2022. People would join but due to time lapse would leave. She recalls issues like train strike, limited time on location and COVID infections, which left production short of resources. She also had to balance being a filmmaker and a mother at the same time. Despite the challenges, which she says are too many to mention here, she is very proud of her team's efforts and the fact that she managed to complete the film within planned time frame. According to Sonia, it has been one of the many adventurous experiences in her life as she never thought that she would make a film like this. She admits, "I could never have done it without my team and I would definitely do it again." While the founder and MD of Kunishka Productions already has her next story in development, her current film QAID is slated to release in 2023. End
