MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Sept. 2, 2022 - PRLog -- DKBmed LLC, in partnership with the Boston University School of Medicine and the American Thoracic Society, is launching a three-part webcast series on the ArcheMedX Intelligent Learning Platform (ILP). Entitled COVID-19: Keeping Up with a Moving Target – Clinical Approaches to Underserved Populations, this educational initiative will equip clinicians with the skills necessary to close emerging gaps in COVID-19 care equity.

The program can be found at covid19.dkbmed.com/multispecialty/underserved-populations

In two years, COVID-19 has claimed 6.3 million lives worldwide and infected over half a billion people. Significant disparities in COVID-19 morbidity and mortality continually highlight the inequities present in health care systems across the United States. These unequal outcomes are propelling social determinants of health to the forefront of clinical conversations about COVID-19 and healthcare in general.

"Members of low-income and ethnic minority communities are disproportionately suffering from COVID-19 and have an elevated risk for both severe illness or death" notes Glory Ruiz, MD, the director of Public Health Programs in the Section of Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center and a faculty member for this program. "Disparities in outcomes across racial and economic lines are not uncommon in medicine, despite our best efforts to promote greater equity in care. Educational initiatives that can help clinicians implement strategies to overcome these gaps are urgently needed."

COVID-19: Keeping Up with a Moving Target – Clinical Approaches to Underserved Populations will feature case-based activities that follow three patients through their experiences with COVID-19, from diagnosis through outpatient and inpatient treatment as warranted. Throughout the program, participants will be better able to:
  • Recognize factors (e.g., occupations, living situations, comorbidities) that may influence therapeutic strategies in individuals at risk of COVID-19 infection or patients with a COVID-19 infection
  • Identify the most appropriate therapeutic interventions for patients from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Describe the broader implications of recently published clinical trial data
  • Communicate with patients and coordinate care as members of a multidisciplinary team
