150 Members Of IBEW Local 332 To Join 2022 Walk A Mile In Their Shoes Event

SAN JOSE, Calif. - June 23, 2022 - PRLog -- Whether they're wearing stilettos, platforms, or construction boots decorated with flowers, some 150 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 332 will strut in heels and flats along Santana Row on June 23, part of the YWCA's 2022 Walk a Mile in Their Shoes Event.

The event raises awareness and funds to empower and support survivors of domestic violence.  Hundreds of participants are expected to attend the walk, which is being held from 5:30-7pm.

The event is "live" for the first time since 2019. Because of Covid-19, the event has been "virtual" for the past two years, with participants walking from their homes, in a park, or at lunch.

At 150 strong, IBEW Local 332 is expected to field the second largest team in the event.

The membership of IBEW Local 332 has donated a total of $10,610 for the walk. This includes purchasing a silver sponsorship for $5,000 and buying over one hundred registrations.

IBEW Local 332's participation in the event is being coordinated by Lilliana Martinez, a fourth year inside apprentice, and Javier Casillas, President of the Local. Lilliana and Javier are co-captains for the IBEW team.

From 3:30 to 5:30, IBEW members and their families will mix and mingle at The Yard House, a Santana Row Restaurant, where appetizers will be served. At 5:30, walkers will meet at the fountain on Santana Row near the Vintage Wine Bar. After a brief opening ceremony by the YWCA, the walk will start around 6:00 and end about 7:00. After the walk, IBEW members will gather for a group photo.

IBEW Local 332 represents all kinds of electrical workers in Santa Clara County. Local 332 frequently donates to various community causes, and has been a sponsor of the Walk a Mile Event for several years. Sal Ventura, now retired, was the IBEW's first coordinator for the Walk a Mile event.  IBEW members Frank Mann and Jason Lucero have both been very strong supporters of the event over the years.

In California, a sexual assault occurs every 56 minutes. The YWCA of Silicon Valley is on a mission to end domestic violence in all of its forms. Funds raised from Walk a Mile will empower and support survivors of domestic violence through the life-changing and life-saving services offered by YWCA Silicon Valley.
