By: NM-Chicago "Christina is committed to giving all children the chance to live life to the fullest by accelerating the search for a cure and better treatments," Collins has been a long-time supporter hosting a lemonade stand with her kids, donating to silent auctions and participating in corporate fun runs. With COVID-19 hitting nonprofits hard, she was compelled to find a way to continue supporting ALSF. Through the Virtual End Childhood Cancer series, she formed a team to participate in a virtual childhood cancer run and raised more than $15,000, which will fund 300 hours of research. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children younger than 19 in the U.S., yet childhood cancer research and services are vastly and consistently underfunded. Every $50 raised will fund one hour of research into cures and better treatments for kids with cancer. To date, Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, has raised more than $40 million for the cause and helped to fund more than 540,000 hours of research to help discover life-saving treatments for children affected by the disease. Since starting its philanthropic program in 2014, Northwestern Mutual – Chicago has raised more than $650,000, funding 13,000 hours of research.
