ICR-1, A New Red-Fluorescent Calcium (Ca²⁺) Indicator With Superior Membrane Permeablilty

GÖTTINGEN, Germany - Oct. 14, 2021 - PRLog -- ICR™: A new proven true red-emitting fluorescent calcium indicator for a huge diversity of different cell types.

ICR-1 is made by ION BIOSCIENCES, San Marcos, Texas.

ICR™ (Ion Calcium Red) is a patent-pending true red-emitting fluorescent calcium indicator, developed by Dr. A Minta, who formerly worked with the late 2009 Nobel Laureate Roger Tsien and co-invented Fluo-1, Fluo-2, Fluo-3 for Calcium, SBFI for Sodium, and PBFI for Potassium.

ICR™ has ideal properties compared to all existing red calcium indicators.

Applications are described in four cell types:

A) MOUSE NEURONS AND ASTROCYTES,
B) STEM CELL-DERIVED CARDIOMYOCYTES,
C) DENTATE GRANULE NEURON,
D) and HEX-293 cells and CHO-K1 cells.

ICR-1 can also be multiplexed with GFP-labeled cells or other green fluorophores commonly used in experiments. Unlike some other red fluorescent Ca²⁺ indicators, ICR-1 does not accumulate in the mitochondria. Data supporting fluorescence lifetime imaging and multiphoton imaging capabilities have also been demonstrated.
