3 Design Features from SIDFest 2021

ANG MO KIO, Singapore - July 9, 2021 - PRLog -- SIDFest is an annual event organised by the Society of Interior Designers in Singapore to introduce the latest design concepts shaping the industry. Although the festival was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, they have returned to the National Design Centre this year with a focus on the significant paradigm shift in the world of design.

Several prominent artists have showcased their distinct interpretation of new habits and new perspectives in this new norm.

With this year's theme of Optimised/Optimism, the first programme of the festival is called Design by Numbers, found in the Level 1 of the main atrium. It is a series of immersive spatial installations that feature collaborations between industry stakeholders and renowned designers.

Another impressive design feature from the festival is Lockdown, which highlights the societal and creative impact of the 2020 pandemic through an experiential installation. This features interviews, opinions, advice, and strategies from established creatives worldwide. Through these excerpts, Sciencework--an Indonesian design studio-- created a three-dimensional installation with immersive graphics and impeccable soundscapes.

Last but not least, SIDFest 2021 showcased Generation Next found in the programme called The other Numbers. This segment focuses on emerging designers and their innovative take on a collective future as they rethink, adapt, and improve the present issues. Through their design demonstrations, they have showcased possible solutions to create a positive impact on society. The designers featured in this segment include winners from Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) 2020, alongside notable students from Raffles Design Institute Singapore, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and Singapore Institute of Technology.

According to Thomas, "the fresh perspectives that young designers provide can result in ground-breaking design solutions. Sharing the works of inquisitive individuals allows design experts and enthusiasts to look at design from a different viewpoint. It enables them to understand not only the final outcome, but also the use of materials and applied procedure to make progressive design concepts come to life."
