Bosco Tech's New CIF eSports Team Begins Scrimmage Play

ROSEMEAD, Calif. - Feb. 9, 2021 - PRLog -- Bosco Tech has established a CIF eSports (electronic sports) program, the newest addition to the DBTI Athletics Department. Following recent remote tryouts, the first varsity and junior varsity teams have been announced and are starting virtual practices and scrimmages.

The eSports teams will compete against digital athletes from other participating high schools in titles such as: Rocket League, League of Legends, Smash Ultimate, Madden 21 Trios (PS4), and FIFA 21 Trios (PS4). Additionally, students have been competing in club sport tournaments for Valorant and Fortnite.

"We're incredibly excited that students will be able to compete on the gaming platforms—this brings so much joy to young people--especially during this period of distance learning," said Bosco Tech Athletic Director Vincent Nolasco. "The eSports teams, and competitions with other schools, will provide the opportunity for social interaction and camaraderie."

"The team will represent the school in the same way a traditional sports team does; team members will even be able to earn a varsity letter. eSports provides a great opportunity to develop teamwork, sportsmanship, a sense of community and conceptual thinking."

Esports is a popular sports competition using video games that often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, between players, individually or as teams.

Bosco Tech is an all-male Catholic high school that uniquely combines a rigorous college-preparatory program with a technology-focused education. The innovative curriculum allows students to exceed university admission requirements while completing extensive integrated coursework in one of six applied science and engineering fields, including the newest program, Biological, Medical & Environmental Technology (BMET).

With a college acceptance rate of 100 percent, the majority of graduates pursue STEM-related post-secondary majors at the university level.
