Motivation
is a critical factor in accomplishing anything in this life! Without it, it is impossible to do anything you want to do because you will be stuck in thought instead of movement. This week's Chosen Visionary is someone who knows and understands that all too well. Because no one could motivate her, she didn't do well initially in school and had little to no ambition to do well.

As it were, motivation comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors, but when the lightbulb goes off, it goes off! Working with inner-city and urban students has its challenges. Some countless obstacles and variables contribute to the apathy we see in our children who come from low-to-moderate income families. There are so many children with potential, but they are NOT motivated and pushed in the right direction. Urban kids everywhere need motivation, but many don't understand what's missing. Urban Academics Onlne is making strides to build connections between inner-city kids and their academic dreams of success.

She is a Full Professor at Norfolk State University and the Department Head for the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science. She served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, West Africa, on a Sabbatical Contract invitation for almost three years. She was instrumental in establishing the Dance Major in the Department of Music, which is now the Department of Music and Dance.

Dr. Hampton has participated in and organized numerous Community Service Projects and Educational Conferences throughout her teaching career. She is serving as our Academic Advisor for Life Changes Ministries, Kumasi, Ghana.
