| ![]() Madeline Rosene is Home. Not JUST for the HolidaysBy: Melinda Mallari "Talking to Myself", the latest video from her 2020 "Raised on Porn" album, was just released December 1, 2020. According to Rosene, the album's title speaks to Millennials' experience as the first generation to grow up exposed to internet pornography, i.e., highly photoshopped digital advertisements, skyrocketing rates of cosmetic surgery, webcam models, online sugar dating, and so much more. Living in a "sex sells" culture that favors Instagram butt models over intelligence, follower count over human connection, and luxury branding over compelling narratives, Rosene's realization was amplified by living in a Los Angeles where favors, networking, and model looks go a lot farther than original thought and talent. "Porn isn't just sex on the internet or on your TV. Porn is in our advertisements on social media, and in our minds, emotions, and relationships" I have a lot to say, and I hate being censored. The indie pop-n-roll singer/songwriter began performing at age 13 with her older brother, Hub, playing clubs in and around Cleveland and Akron in the early 2000's. During college, Madeline signed with a manager to play shows in Western Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. While dyslexia challenged her early years, it also cultivated her intimate relationship with language, and shaped an original voice, to become a prolific and uniquely expressive storyteller, musically and lyrically. "It took me a long time to learn how to read and spell," says Rosene, a home-schooled autodidact. "I had to spend so much time trying to understand words and phonetics that I learned to love them." With the release of "Raised on Porn", Madeline's dream to be a full-time indie pop artist is well within reach.
