AdvisorSmith Releases Study on 'The Most and Least Educated Cities in America'

NEW YORK - Feb. 25, 2020 - PRLog -- AdvisorSmith, a leading information resource for small business owners, published a study today on The Most and Least Educated Cities in America.

The study was based upon data from the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey. Using data about rates of educational attainment in various metro areas, by creating a composite score for each area using the following metrics:

• Percentage of high school graduates
• Percentage of associate degree holders
• Percentage of bachelor's degree holders
• Percentage of master's degree holders

Key Findings

• The #1 most educated city was Boulder, Colorado, where 27.8% of adults aged 25 or older held a graduate degree, 62.5% were college graduates and 95.7% were high school graduates. This compares favorably to the national average, where 13.1% held graduate degrees, 35% held college degrees, and 89.8% were high school graduates.

• 8 of the top 10 most educated cities were college towns hosting a major research university.

• The most educated large cities were Washington, DC (#9), and San Jose, CA (#10), driven by government, legal and research industries in DC, and the technology sector in San Jose.

• 7 of the 10 least educated cities were in located in Texas and California either along the national border, or in California's Central Valley.
