RESTON, Va. - Oct. 10, 2019 - PRLog -- Hunters Woods at Trails Edge is a relatively new presence to the Fairfax County region, but the senior living community already is making a significant impact.

Hunters Woods at Trails Edge will participate in three important community events during a four-day stretch as part of the Public Art Reston Colts Neck Road Underpass Project and the Reston Historic Trust Home Tour.

"We are excited to be a part of these amazing events that spotlight the artwork, culture and community-oriented approach to create a worthwhile project," said Cissy Nickel, Executive Director of Independent Living Operations at Hunters Woods at Trails Edge.

Hunters Woods at Trails Edge will participate in:

·         Public Art Reston's community unveiling of the Colts Neck Road Underpass Project at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, including a free ice cream social.

·         Public Art Reston's VIP unveiling at 6 p.m. on Oct. 17.

·         Reston Historic Trust Home Tour from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 19.

The Colts Neck Road Underpass is among Reston's 25 underpasses. Artwork was commissioned for the underpass located adjacent to Hunters Woods at Trails Edge.

The artwork engaged the local community and was guided by renown Philadelphia artist and educator Ben Volta.

A 2015 recipient of a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, Volta is known for his public artwork. Recently he was selected as part of the U.S./Japan Creative Artists Fellowship Program that will collaborate on projects reflecting themes of the 2020 Olympic Games.

"We were trying to make sure we picked an artist who really did represent the cultural diversity and the inter-generational community of Reston," Nickel said.

"Approximately 700 people in the Reston area participated and all artwork was incorporated into the main piece," Nickel said.

The Oct. 16 unveiling is open to the public. The VIP unveiling and reception on Oct. 17 is part of the annual Celebrate Public Art Reston reception and fundraiser. Volta will be part of the event co-hosted by Adam Schulman, a partner with Atlantic Realty Companies, and Nickel, who also is an artist.
