MüNSTER, Germany - Sept. 17, 2019 - PRLog -- The availability of IT systems must be given the highest priority in every modern company. Many managing directors and IT managers are not aware of the fact that even with an availability of IT systems of 99%, more than 87.7 hours of unplanned IT downtime are included. Every minute of unplanned downtime in the server room can have significant consequences for the company concerned. Depending on the size of the company, the loss of productivity caused by IT downtime can cause enormous damage.

If the cooling of the often tightly packed IT racks fails, important server, network and storage systems can fail within a very short time. The HDD or SSD hard disks installed in storage and backup systems in particular must be operated within the temperature range specified by the manufacturer. An overheated server rack can thus quickly lead to a data disaster. A further physical hazard is fire. Many a defective power supply unit was the cause of a completely burnt out server room. Similarly fatal for the availability of the IT infrastructure is the leakage of water. What happens when water meets electricity should be sufficiently known to every IT administrator.

Risk potentials, like data theft, sabotage or even burglary, are often criminally neglected in relation to the IT infrastructure. The theft of sensitive data by external hackers does not always occur. Therefore, the server room or data center should also be adequately monitored inside.

The Didactum alarm system 500 is a budget-friendly it monitoring solution for server rooms. It is an advanced monitoring solution that can detect and report a variety of risks and threats in the server room and IT rack with the help of intelligent sensors.

Based on the modular principle, the alarm system 500 can be equipped with individual sensors. From temperature sensors, humidity sensors and smoke detectors, to water sensors and door contacts, to voltage sensors. Each sensor is equipped with an OID and can be queried via LAN / WAN by SNMP tools and network management software (Nagios, check_MK, OpenNMS, PRTG etc.).

Modbus RTU capable terminal devices (e.g. electricity meters) or sensors can also be connected to the SNMP compatible alarm system on request (Modbus RTU module required).

Critical status changes are reported by the alarm system via SNMP, relay switching, e-mail or SMS (LTE modem or Web-to-SMS service required). Further highlights are dry contacts for the Ethernet connection of systems and systems in building services engineering. The alarm system 500 can therefore immediately report a malfunction in the air-conditioning system to the responsible employees.
