CHICAGO - July 22, 2019 - PRLog -- At a time when clean energy projects are developing across the state, the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition and Institute of Cultural Affairs will host a community conversation in Uptown to discuss ways to make clean, affordable energy accessible to everyone across Illinois.

"Listen. Lead. Share" is an open conversation to explore how communities across Illinois can work for and benefit from a clean economy that cuts energy costs and creates jobs. Drawing participation from voters, politicians, business leaders and labor membership, the campaign's statewide events advance the dialogue about how Illinois can lead the way in our country's clean energy future.

The event will be held Tue, July 30, 2019 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM at the ICA GreenRise, 4750 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago IL.

The conversation will foster discussion around the Clean Energy Jobs Act and its four policy goals that include ensuring equitable benefits across the state, moving Illinois to 100% clean energy by 2050, cutting carbon pollution from the state's power sector by 2030, and immediately electrifying the transportation sector.

Lesley Showers, COO at ICA shared that the pursuit of 100% clean energy for the state resonates with ICA GreenRise's own ambitions. "ICA GreenRise is the second largest roof-mounted solar installation in Chicago with 485 panels. We're Energy Star certified, but there is a lot more we could do to meet our energy goals and meet the needs of the community."

In addition to learning more about the CEJA bill, the July 30th event will provide an opportunity for attendees to give their recommendations on how to improve the bill and its community impact. "CEJA will help northern Illinois transition to carbon-neutral energy by 2030, and it will draw in $30B in private investments, bringing jobs to the workforce," reflected Marianne Lalonde, Uptown community resident and PhD scientist. "The bill is great as it's written, but if I had to make any changes, I would expand the 'Clean Jobs Workforce Hubs' to include opportunities for people living with mental illness. Employment is key to recovery and community integration for people with serious mental illness."

The Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition successfully championed the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), historic, bipartisan legislation that was signed into law in 2016.

The "Listen. Lead. Share." campaign will help build on the success of FEJA, the biggest clean energy breakthrough in Illinois history.
