WAYNE, N.J. - June 28, 2019 - PRLog -- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS, are high tech safety features offered in newer vehicle windshields. As a higher percentage of accidents are caused by human error, some experts may argue that a computer system with ADAS may become a more reliable motorist. They may even go as far as to say incidents of drivers being distracted by cell phone use, eating,or even drunk driving can be drastically reduced with safety features like Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Braking Systems technology, etc. It's important to acquaint yourself with ADAS features before purchasing or driving a car to be aware of the various visual and sound alerts that can be distracting while trying to safely operate a vehicle. Here are a few features that you may need to know about….

The Lane Departure Warning feature warns drivers when drifting between lanes without using your signal light. It uses a camera attached to the windshield to function. You may be signaled by a beep, vibration, or even shown a picture on your navigation system, and/or an indicator light up.

Forward-Collision Warning (FCW) also called a pre-crash warning system, combines radar-, laser-, and/or camera-based systems to warn drivers of an impending collision by using visual, auditory, or physical cues. If the driver ignores the warnings, systems with autonomous braking, or autobrake, will apply partial or full braking force.

Forward Emergency Braking constantly monitors the distance between the vehicle and the one in front of it. This means that if for some reason the distance to the other car suddenly decreases, the system will determine that there is a risk of collision and will sound an audible alert. At this stage, the driver needs to notice this warning and then take action to avoid a collision. If not, the system judges that the car is still in danger of colliding with something, it will automatically engage the brakes, helping to avoid a collision. If a collision is unavoidable, the speed of the vehicle will have been decreased helping to mitigate damage caused by the collision.

Traffic Sign Recognition uses a front-facing camera technology to pick up upcoming traffic signs. Once this happens, character recognition software interprets what the sign is displaying and relays it onto the dashboard and/or infotainment display. It will remain there until a change is recognized, such as when the speed limit changes, the new sign will be displayed.

Blind Spot Monitoring is usually displayed on your side view mirrors The blind spot monitoring system will light up whenever there is a vehicle in a potential blind spot on either side of you.

When replacing your windshield https://www.autoglassnj.com on a vehicle with ADAS features, be prepared to provide your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for your auto glass service company to be able to narrow down exactly which windshield is needed. It is also worth noting that when replacing windshields containing these high tech systems, you will most often need to have the windshield recalibrated at your dealership where you purchased the vehicle.
