RIVERSIDE, Calif. - May 27, 2019 - PRLog -- In New York, Canopy Growth acquires a 308,000 square foot facility in Kirkwood for its previously announced hemp industrial park. The Canadian cannabis giant will utilize the facility for cannabinoid extraction and related manufacturing, and is expected to boost the local economy in the process.

Quiet progress in North Dakota. The state, which previously ranked high in cannabis possession arrests, becomes the 25th to decriminalize marijuana, with little publicity or media coverage. Although far from legalization, the move is seen as a big step in the right direction.

Another mega-deal in the finance realm. Massachusetts-based Curaleaf agrees to acquire Oregon-based Cura Partners in an all-stock deal worth 949 million dollars. Cura's Select brands are available in over 900 retailers, mostly in the Western U.S.

On the international front, Canada's cannabis regulatory agency issues its first nursery license to Alberta-based InPlanta Biotechnology, allowing them to sell seeds and clones. The milestone is expected to lead to a more diversified selection of marijuana from a wider variety of genetics, and make it cheaper for consumers to grow at home.

Moosehead, the largest fully Canadian-owned brewery, partners with Sproutly in a joint venture to produce non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused beverages, in preparation for the legalization of new classes of cannabis in Canada, including edibles, no later than October of this year. While some alcoholic beverage producers are looking at cannabis as a threat to their bottom line, Moosehead is betting on it.

In other international news, the first shipments of cannabis from Latin America to Europe have been approved, from Columbia and Uruguay, to German medical cannabis importer Cansativa. Although the products are being shipped for testing only, sales of imports from the region could be possible in the near future.
