Non-profit Invests in Tech Start Up helping animals with Technology
RSPCA Qld through its ownership of Shelterbuddy is now partnering with Adopets to further the impact on its pet life-saving work worldwide.
Starting with ShelterBuddy, the world's first SaaS-based shelter management platform, RSPCA turned cost into profit. Since 2005, RSPCA has scaled ShelterBuddy from something that was once solving its own operational needs to a global brand used in over 500 shelters in five countries.
"Every investment we make is carefully measured," said Mark Townend, CEO of RSPCA Queensland, "Our first priority is to care for the over 50,000 animals we serve every year."
Two years ago, RSPCA Qld earned a 20% stake of Petcloud.com.au. PetCloud, which delivers a much needed safe and trusted pet sitting service, is often referred to as the Airbnb for pets. Additionally, backing Taptins, a first of its kind device invented, RSPCA took it from software to hardware. Created jointly by Alicorn Ventures and RSPCA Qld, Taptins introduces a frictionless donation platform for the charity sector. Taptins now is being used across Australia and is about to be rolled out in the US and Canada generating much needed donations to a variety of charities and non-profit organizations. Taptins is the first fully connected 4G unit of its type in the world.
Mr. Townend explains "Like most non-profits, the RSPCA uses investments as part of its long-term financial planning, similar to a fund or a for profit entity. RSPCA Queensland prides itself in leading the charge for innovation and social good. When a startup product or service is closely aligned with the RSPCA's mission, an investment can amplify the impact for the agency and pets, this is at the forefront of our mission of saving lives."
