GREENVILLE, Pa. - Feb. 18, 2019 - PRLog -- Thiel College's Organization of Black Collegiates, an inclusive organization to promote and raise cultural awareness around the campus, is hosting a series of events to recognize and celebrate Black History Month.

"Black History Month events are centered on raising awareness of the minority culture on campus and recognizing the important contributions African-Americans made throughout history and continue to make today," Thiel College (https://www.thiel.edu/) Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion Anthony E. Jones said. "The campus community appreciates OBC's campus leadership in educating the Thiel community about minority issues in ways that are open, respectful and educational for everyone."

Featured events include:

Harambee African Dance Youth Organization: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center—The Harambee Youth Organization is for school-aged children and is a cultural, educational and recreational program that promotes racial harmony. Organization members conduct African and African American cultural performances at universities, colleges, schools, churches, community centers and other institutions.
19th OBC Soul Food Feast: 4–5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb, 24, Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center—Foods from the African American culture will be available for the campus to enjoy and to raise awareness for one of the many diverse cultures Thiel College has to offer. The cost is $10 for faculty and staff and a swipe for Thiel College students. The event is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
OBC Poetry Night: 7–8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, Sawhill-Georgian Room of the Howard Miller Student Center—Slam poet and spoken word artist from Youngstown, Ohio Doreen Devine Block will share her unique version of slam poetry and performing with the campus.
Consent Matters Presentation: 8–9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, Weyers Lounge of the Howard Miller Student Center—A presentation on how to seek and recognize consent and identify situations in which it can not be obtained. Students will also learn about how they can step in to help others who need them in difficult situations.
