Psychotherapist Raising Funds for First Subscription Box Designed to Prevent Screen Addiction
Mindfulness is an excellent tool for counteracting stress. But in-person classes or meditation apps on a phone are often not enough to prevent the chronic stress that causes preoccupation, distraction or out-of-balance habits like excessive screen time.
VisibleU – The Subscription Box for a Habit of Mindfulness is an educational subscription program that teaches mindfulness with a unique set of screen-free tools that are mailed to subscribers each month. Precisely "dosed" lessons fit in your pocket or phone case, and help you practice mindfulness skills in short bursts throughout your day... without using one of the biggest threats to mindfulness ... our phones.
"I developed VisibleU to answer a frustration I heard over and over again," said Jessica Kiesler, creator of the VisibleU system. "Busy adults see the need for more mindfulness in their lives. They truly intend to stick to a meditation or yoga routine. But it's nearly impossible to make regular time for it. Or if they manage that, they don't feel the kind of benefits they really want. VisibleU is different from anything else on the market."
Activity cards prompt users to practice the essential skills of mindfulness like emotional intelligence, self-compassion, attention regulation and healthy relationship habits. Subscribers receive a physical box each month with the activity cards and other lesson materials. Users also get access to a learning portal.
The VisibleU team is launching on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to raise money for start-up and first-round printing costs, so that subscription prices can be widely accessible.
