Castles abound as do Roman ruins on a bike trail known as Romerweg, part of an archaeological park regarded as one of the most significant archaeological sites in Austria. Vennbahn Trail is an eight-day bicycle sampler that utilizes the 78-mile Vennbahn Cycle Route created from an old railway line twisting through Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. The trip begins in Maastricht in the southern Netherlands, crossing into Germany with an invitation to visit a ham smoker preparing an artisanal delicacy, and then into Luxembourg, one of Europe's smallest countries. Before completing the loop, visitors pass through the Belgian-German High Fens-Eifel Nature Park, a designated bog and moorland. Guests may cycle up to 37 miles a day.
