Vienna-based start-up rescues crew members

To make boating safer is the mission of Vienna-based startup crewbands. With its unique Android-app, the team presents the first part of their concept to alarm the crew in case a person has gone overboard (person overboard, POB).

VIENNA - April 13, 2018 - PRLog -- One of the biggest concerns for boaters and sailors is one or more crew members falling overboard. Even in perfect weather conditions without waves, search and rescue are nerve-stretching tasks.

With crewbands, the start-up develops an easy-to-use system that alerts instantly in case of an emergency and shows vital information for the rescue operation on the screens of connected phones. The already published app allows the user to connect third-party fitness trackers or smartwatches and monitors the security of the crew around the clock.

"With the connection to third-party hardware, we have reached a major milestone in our plan," founders Thomas Nenning and Werner Scheibenpflug are convinced. "We want to give consumers interested in the product the opportunity to test the concept before our own wearable is launched."

The specifically designed wristbands are solar powered, improve both the connection quality to the app as well as the working range and are equipped with a smart water sensor. They will be available in summer 2018 and complete the safety concept.
