Memory Café in Milwaukee schedules meetings for 2018

MILWAUKEE - Feb. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- The Memory Café hosted at Moose Lodge 49, 5476 S 13^th Street, Milwaukee, Wis., has determined its schedule for the balance of 2018. This is a newer location and is open for additional attendees.

Memory Cafes are places where persons with MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), early-stage Alzheimer's or a related dementia can go with their care partners to socialize and have fun with other people going through similar things. There are 300 memory cafes in Wisconsin.

Sandy Raasch, a facilitator for the Moose Lodge 49 Memory Café, said, "The reason I'm passionate about facilitating a Memory Café is that people with memory loss often become isolated. As they forget how to play games or do other social things, they tend to withdraw. A Memory Café is a welcoming place where they can go to remain socially engaged, and mentally stimulated without intimidation or fear of embarrassment. It's rewarding to watch them light up with pride when telling a story or doing a task the best they can."

The Moose Lodge is a not-for-profit fraternal organization created to financially support an orphanage in Illinois called Moose Hart, and a retirement community in Florida called Moose Haven. Moose Lodge 49 in Milwaukee is a logical location for a Memory Café. The monthly meetings are held free of charge in a hall that is routinely open to the general public.

This Memory Café is facilitated by Platinum Benefits Group, First Light Home Care, Silverado, Synergy Home Care and Talem Home Care. Volunteers from these organizations facilitate each meeting.

Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Meetings for the balance of 2018 are February 8, March 8, April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, and September 13, 2018
